Chapter Ride Report

Wagons & Wildflowers

Saturday, May 1

Report & Photos by Connie Baugher,

Trail Scout

We equestrians may have had almost as many participants as the Washington State Parks had for their open house. Very cold and windy weather and almost no advance advertising did hurt the general attendance. We had a group of six go out at 9:30 and 15 more riders at 10:30. Three couples from the St. Helens Chapter drove out of the rain to ride. We held on to our hats, enjoyed the flowers and were glad it wasn’t raining.

Lower Left:  Riders actually are hanging onto their hats, but the views are worth it.

Chapter Ride Report:

Mt. Adams Horse Camp, May 22

Report & Photos by Connie Baugher,

Trail Scout

We had interesting weather for this May ride at the Horse Camp; wind, wind and rain, wind and snow and sunshine. This is probably why only eight of us showed up to ride. Dave and Bonnie Welch, Jim and Kay Hill and Claudia (CJ) Jacobs set up camp on Friday. I got to Camp in time Saturday morning to see CJ’s shade tent be blown over! Before I could head back home Alan and Iris Bennett drove in ready to ride. The Bennetts and CJ had never ridden in the area so this was a great chance for the rest of us to show it off. The Welchs and the Hills took CJ out and I took the Bennetts on three short loops. It turned into a great riding day.

Three-year-old Tia, ridden by Iris Bennett, leads Willie (an understandably cautious mule) across a bridge. Alan supplies encouragement.

A stunning Mt. Adams from Trout Lake.

Work Party Report:

Mt. Adams Horse Camp, May 8 & 9

Report by Dave Welch, Director

The Horse Camp work party was a success. Thanks to the Mt. Adams Endurance Riders who bucked out several trails before we had our work party, we were able to finish bucking the lower trails. Now open are the Lower Loop from Camp, Buck Creek Trail #54, Big Tree Trail #51, Wicky Creek Trail #38, Gotchen Creek Trail #40 from the trailhead to Morrison Creek Trail #39, Morrison Creek Trail #39 to Buck Creek Tail #54. The camp was also cleaned up, a highline repaired,  the road brushed out and opened up, and potholes filled. Thanks to Larry Hale for bringing his tractor to haul rock.  Steve Gibson and Connie Baugher took some photos.

Fourteen members helped out on Saturday, and four returned on Sunday for road repair.
